About Tim

My name is Timothy Jones, and I am a 25 year old creative video-maker residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is my blog, welcome. If you’re looking for a reel of my best, most polished work, this is not it. This is a place for me to be creative on a constant basis, and always be putting up new videos. Most of them are short, so take some time to get lost and watch a few. I hope you enjoy.

For those interested, here is a little more history about me.

My first stint with a video camera was around age ten, when my brother Ben and I would shoot each other doing super cool rollerblading tricks in our neighborhood park. My brother and his friends would always make videos they called “Fun Tapes” in which they would come up with funny plot ideas, then watch the videos and giggle the night away. Of course, my friends followed suit, but I don’t think our videos ever measured up to the famed Fun Tapes. Ben went on to start his own video production company, Image Brew, out of Denver, Colorado. Image Brew is a high-end video production boutique that has grown to become immensely successful, no doubt due to Ben’s creative vision.

During my first year of college I bought my first video camera, a Canon GL-2, and started shooting my friends skiing. That winter I applied for an internship with a video production company in Annapolis, Maryland that specialized in filming sailboat regattas. I got the job, and moved to Maryland to work with T2Productions for the summer. That summer I learned a lot about all aspects of video production, from editing techniques to how to keep a camera dry when trying to get coverage of a race in 6 foot waves. I moved back to Utah but luckily my relationship with T2Productions flourished and I continued to do freelance work with them, traveling to places like Texas and the Virgin Islands to shoot videos.

As college progressed, I lost sight of video for a bit while I focused on the content of my degree, photography. I spent a lot of time learning and experimenting with all forms of traditional and digital photography. In 2009, I graduated from Westminster College in Salt Lake City with a Bachelor of Fine Art, photography concentration. The time I spent solely focused on photography undoubtedly sharpened my eye for video compositions.

After school, I started working as a freelance videographer, working with clients that ranged from Sales-Training firms to Ski Resorts. In the spring of 2011 I began working with Park City Television in Park City, UT. At PCTV, I was not only producing video content, but I was thrown head-first into the broadcast-end of the spectrum. After a short month of training, I began directing the Mountain Morning Show, a daily live show that runs from 7-9AM. Learning the ins and outs of this side of the industry has already proved to be invaluable to my skillset.

At the end of February 2012 I was offered a job with a startup company in Salt Lake City, H2O Overdrive, to head up their media operations. I decided to jump at the opportunity to work with a new company that specializes in sports. Since beginning with H2O Overdrive, I have taken on the enormous task of implementing live video webcasting into their events they will be putting on throughout the summer. Thanks to what I learned at PCTV, many of these skills cross over to live web-video production.

Despite my busy schedule, I am still taking on sparse freelance work. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in having me tackle a project you have in mind, or if you’re in need of consulting.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy my work.
